It is not just about teeth
When your teeth affect your everyday life
You deserve to understand your options.
Avoiding certain foods. Hiding your smile. Putting off a conversation because you are worried about the cost. If any of that feels familiar, you are not alone.
Start with a conversation. A consultant can explain the treatment options and ways to pay, then help arrange an assessment with an independent partner dentist when you are ready.
What it is
What it actually is
The same three routes, weighed differently.
There is no special pensioner scheme for dental implants. There are the same three ways to pay that everyone has, and a pension changes how each of them looks. A payment plan is still possible. Your super may be easier to reach than you expect. And public dental, which many concession card holders can use, rarely extends to implants.
None of that is a reason to put treatment off. It is a reason to work out which route fits before you apply for anything, which is exactly what the consultant call is for.
What it involves
- A payment plan application, assessed on the provider's own criteria
- Asking your super fund whether you can already access your super
- Checking how any change to your savings or super affects your pension
- The same $75 consultation and written plan as anyone else
Before you start
What has to be true
Set out plainly, so you can weigh it up yourself.
This is a guide to the conversation rather than a decision. Nobody on our side makes that decision, and this page is not advice about your own circumstances.
Usually worth asking about when
- You receive the Age Pension, a Disability Support Pension or another Centrelink payment
- You hold a concession card and have been told implants are not covered through public dental
- You are 60 or over and not sure whether your super is already accessible
- You were declined by a mainstream lender and assumed that was the end of it
Worth knowing before you start
- Taking money out of super or savings can change how Services Australia assesses your income and assets. Check before you do it
- Services Australia runs a free Financial Information Service that can explain how a decision like this affects your payments
- A payment plan is still credit. Repayments come out of a fixed income, so work out the amount you can genuinely carry
- We are not financial advisers and cannot tell you which route is right for your circumstances
Step by step
How it actually runs
Including the parts nobody enjoys explaining.
Timings are what we typically see rather than commitments, because the decisions are not ours to make.
1
The consultation
The dentist examines you, takes the X-rays and 3D scans and writes the plan with different cost options to suit your budget. On a fixed income the lower option matters more than usual, so ask exactly what it leaves out.
Your consult
2
Working out the route
Your consultant goes through which routes are realistic for you. If your super might already be accessible, they will suggest you confirm that with your fund before anything else.
On the call
3
Checking the pension side
If you plan to draw on super or savings, find out how it affects your payments first. The Financial Information Service at Services Australia is free and has nothing to do with us.
Before you commit
4
Funding, then treatment
A payment plan is usually decided within days. An application to the ATO on compassionate grounds typically takes one to three months in our experience. Treatment dates are booked once the funding is in place.

Questions worth asking before you decide
- Can I already access my super, and how long does my fund take to pay it out
- How would this change my pension, and from when
- What is the total repayable on this plan, with every fee included
- What does the lower option in my treatment plan leave out
Straight talk
We are paid by the clinic
Not by a lender, and not by a super fund.
We are paid by the clinic, not by any finance provider and not by any super fund. That is the whole reason we can tell you honestly which route is realistic for you instead of steering you towards one.
Get Dental Implants is not a dental practice, not a credit provider and not a financial adviser. We explain the routes at a general level and connect you with a dentist. We do not prepare or lodge ATO applications.
Common questions
About paying on a pension
About this route in particular.
If you are weighing this against another route, the consultant will go through all three without pushing one.
Ask before you apply anywhere.
Leave your details and a consultant calls you back, usually the same day, and tells you honestly whether this route fits your situation.

Can pensioners get a payment plan for dental implants?
A pension on its own does not rule you out. Some providers assess applicants that mainstream lenders decline, including pensioners and people on Centrelink payments, and they look at whether the repayments are affordable on your income.
Approval is always the provider's decision and it is never guaranteed. Your consultant will tell you which providers the clinic uses, and which of them assess pension income, before you apply. Read how payment plans work.
Can I use my super if I am retired?
Once you turn 65, or once you have reached your preservation age and retired, super is generally accessible through your fund without a compassionate grounds application. Your fund can confirm where you stand and how long a withdrawal takes.
If you have not met one of those conditions, early release on compassionate grounds is the route. It is decided by the ATO, requires acute or chronic dental pain, and is never guaranteed. Read how using super works.
Does public dental cover implants for concession card holders?
Every state and territory runs public dental services, and many concession card holders are eligible. Implants are rarely covered and waiting lists can be long, so most people who come to us have already looked at that route.
Your state service can tell you exactly what it offers. Whether treatment is readily available to you through the public health system is also one of the things the ATO looks at for early release of super.
Will paying for treatment affect my pension?
It can. Money moving out of super or savings can change how Services Australia assesses your income and assets, and the effect depends on your circumstances.
The Financial Information Service at Services Australia is free and can explain it before you decide. We are not financial advisers and cannot advise you on it.
Does it cost more because I am a pensioner?
No. The consultation is $75 for everyone and covers the examination, the X-rays and 3D scans, and the written treatment plan. Get Dental Implants does not prepare or lodge ATO paperwork.
Any interest or fees on a payment plan are set by the provider, so read the terms before you sign.
